Agriculture faces a critical Fall legislative agenda

With Congress returning to Washington, agricultural stakeholders are entering one of the most consequential periods for farm policy in recent years.

The House has approved a new Farm Bill, but Senate action remains uncertain as lawmakers continue to debate nutrition, commodity, conservation, and trade provisions. Meanwhile, farm income challenges, weather-related losses, and elevated operating costs have increased calls for additional producer assistance and stronger risk management tools.

Energy and fuel prices also remain a significant concern for producers. From field operations and grain transportation to fertilizer production and irrigation, energy costs affect nearly every aspect of agricultural production. For many operations, profitability remains closely tied to both commodity prices and energy markets.

The Midwest Council on Agriculture will continue engaging policymakers, industry partners, and agricultural leaders to advance practical solutions that strengthen the competitiveness and resilience of Midwest agriculture.
