Press Release: Midwest Council on Agriculture supports key agriculture wins in the reconciliation package

The Midwest Council on Agriculture today responded to President Trump signing into law the reconciliation package that passed the Senate and House last week. The One Big Beautiful Bill ensures a continuation of the 2017 tax provisions, delivers on a new slate of tax measures, and includes a robust package of agricultural provisions that will shape the future of American farming and rural communities.

“We are encouraged by the agricultural provisions in H.R. 1, which reflect a recognition of the critical role farmers and ranchers play in our economy and food system,” said Perry Aasness, President of the Midwest Council on Agriculture. “This bill delivers long-term certainty and expanded support for producers across the Midwest.”

Farmers across the region welcomed the bill’s passage, given the uncertainty of Congress passing another farm bill.

“The improvements to ARC and PLC as well as crop insurance give us the stability we need to plan for the long haul,” said MWCA Vice President Jarred Billadeau, a North Dakota farmer. “And addressing 45Z, the estate tax, pass-through business income deduction and restoring bonus depreciation are also big wins for our coalition.”

The MWCA was a key voice in drafting language to the crop insurance improvements that ended up in the OBBB. The coalition will continue its advocacy for Midwest ag priorities, including a five-year farm bill, agriculture workforce, animal health, energy and biofuels, conservation and trade matters.
